  1. long time EMS servant says:

to metromedic: a crew makes the call a sucess, not brand new equipment or trucks! That’s what the people of Kennesaw are upset about – GAEMS crews treated their pts with compassion and care, unlike the service you work for!

  2. Metromedic says:

As my name suggests, I am employed at MetroAtlanta Ambulance Service, and have been for quite some time.

The bottom line is that MetroAtlanta is far better equipped to provide EMS to Kennesaw. I work in a Mercedes ambulance that is quiet, efficient, comfortable, and stocked with the most advanced equipment available.

Georgia EMS, on the other hand, operates vehicles that are extremely loud, smelly, smoky, and is stocked.with a cardiac monitor that predates Y2K.

MetroAtlanta has invested millions of dollars to provide the best care to the citizens of Cobb county. MetroAtlanta can, and will do a better job

FYI: The five member Ethics Board members are:

    Terri Copeland, Chairman
    Eileen Alberstadt,
    Ed Moses,
    Robert Quigley
    Kenneth Westmoreland.

The City Clerk advises that they will be meeting July 24th at the Community Center.

No agenda has yet been posted, keep an eye on the City site for those details, probably only to be posted a few days before the meeting.

  4. Gator Actual says:

Now the residents of Kennesaw will be receiving care from a company that has some of the best trained and qualified paramedics that are provided the best equipment that is available. MetroAtlanta is not a service that is struggling to make their bills on a month to month basis and their EMTs & Paramedics are well paid for their work. When you compare the two services, MetroAtlanta has more than enough personnel and equipment if in case something happens to put a crew or EMS vehicle out of service. MetroAtlanta is a pillar in the community that not only serves the residents of Cobb County, they also give back to the citizens as well.

  5. Local ER nurse says:

I have received patients from both services and witnessed the attitudes of EMT’s and medics from both. While they are all excellent people,I found patient care provided by metro to be superior. Also, they reinvest their money into the latest equipment and advancing the training for their medics. They participate in disaster relief, the EMS council, and have even donated equipment to a third world country. I have not witnessed the same return on our investment with Georgia EMS. As far as response times, Metro will more likely be able to cover us with their fleet of brand new ambulances than Georgia EMS did with their single dinosaur vehicle.

  6. kennesaw lags behind says:

Also, love the mobile home Metro Bank in the bottom of a revine, where a sheraton hotel was supposed to be. But no, we have a portable bank on a 10 acre parcel of land. Nice development of prime real estate.

  7. kennesaw lags behind says:

I’m sure Matthews had nothing to do with “helping” his other employer gain a government contract. This guy is joke as a mayor! All new out of kennesaw as of late has been negative. Nothing new in kennesaw since a bridge underpass! Wow! That creates no revenue! What is word on the wasted, vacant building on corner of ken due west and 41. Its only been 5 yrs since its been vacant. But his employer got their bid! Kennesaw has become D’ville!

I agree with what Follow the Law said. That being said, I have a question – when did this decision get made? They did not make it at any of the council meetings and removed it from the last one it was on. Did they have a meeting we are not aware of? Or did Steve Kennedy, the city manager, make this decision on this own?
In the past, the council has the been the one who made decisions of this magnitude. I would like to know if they did that this time?

  9. Follow the law says:

It seems that the City is finally going to start following the law as they should have been doing all along…there has to be a good legal reason for them to be changing their tune now….it will be interesting to see what comes out…not what someone says..or how good or bad they “feel” the ambulance service was….but if they and the city were following the rules and laws as they should be doing all along…. What a shame to have people that can’t follow the rules…

    • Puzzled says:

But hasn’t the Mayor been in city government since this all started over a decade ago? Why now? What changed?

      • Anonymous says:

To puzzled: Ga EMS started jumping calls in Acworth. This is not Mother, Jugs, and Speed. People are held accountable for breaking state law.

  10. steve says:

This is truly a sad day for the citizens of Kennesaw. The employees of Georgia ems are great, hard working, and honestly care about the people they helped. Metro only looks at the people they transport as another body/paycheck. The city needs to really look around and see that no one is moving into the city and they are forcing the ones they have out. I really hope this decision bites the city in the…

  11. Wow!! Really?? says:

Based on the limited facts that I know about the response times and the desires of the City Council – this is very disappointing.

I hope there is new information that I am not aware of that would help to justify this.

    Puzzled.,..

  12. 20 year City Resident says:

This IS a sad day for the residents of the City of Kennesaw. As of 12:01 Sunday morning, July 8, Kennesaw’s 911 center will no longer call Ga EMS for medical calls in the city. Per a phone conversation the City Manager, Steve Kennedy, made to Ga EMS, Kennedy stated the city would now dispatch Metro Ambulance. I am tired of the political games being played. Let’s do what is best for the citizens and concentrate on patient care.
